when all accommodation is booked it might be good idea for one person to book the outbound bed and breakfast for the whole group so we can all depart togeather

That can be a lot of hard work as most places want a deposit first. Personally im just going to post on
here where im staying on the thursday night and what time im catching the train on friday, if people
want to join me then thats fine  thumb

At the moment im thinking of the

Travelodge Ashford Hotel
Eureka Leisure Park
Rutherford Road
Ashford
Kent
TN25 4BN

Which is currenty £41 for 2 people in 1 room with breakfast.

Probably catch the 10am train going out and the 1600 one coming back, but thats not certain yet.

Re: 5th European Intruder Convention - Belgium 2014

Post  geofftl1000r on Thu 02 Jan 2014, 14:31

Will someone be nominating a meeting point on 'the other side' so we can all meet up for the ride?

Think I'm on the 10:35 crossing same as Mick but I saw some others are on the earlier 10:00 crossing?

Are we planning on doing the motorways or sticking to the nicer 'B' type roads? Might be worth publishing the route so we can start putting the route into satnavs/phones.
I tend to just follow the route the satnav sets when 'motorways' are turned off. Anyone have any thoughts?

I think there is only about 20 mins difference in train time arrivals into Calais, so I suppose we can
all meet up just outside the port ?.

Its approx 3.5 hours riding to our destination, without any stops, so personally would prefer to take
the fastest route and include some stops.

The link below shows some recommended roads in Belgium. I'm going to see if there are any on route to the meet. I hate motorways and motorway rest areas so will most likely find a scenic route providing the weather is in agreement on the day! wink

Ok we are all booked up and good to go and looking forward to. Got my maps, first aid kit, breathalyzers and EU sticker for my number plate but still not clear about the hi viz rule. Do you just have to have one to put on in the event of breaking down, or do you have to actually wear a hi viz when riding?

Don't know if others are aware of this, but when traveling to the EU you are supposed to have a EUROPEAN HEALTH INSURANCE CARD as well as travel insurance. the EHIC card is an extension of NHS medical care when abroad. It does not cover for accidents though, hence the need for travel insurance. The cards are free to apply on line if you do a google search.

Only gotta carry it with you, has to be worn if you break down and pull up in a place where stopping is not normally permitted. Same law applies in France.

A Hi Vis jacket is the only item you need to carry with in Belgium, the first Aid kit and fire extinguisher are only complusory for vehicles registered in Belgium.

However or course, we will be travelling through France to get there, so we've gotta comply to their laws too, take a look at these:

Post  Richy Y on Thu 09 Jan 2014, 19:21

When we were in France last year they changed the law so that you don't have to wear a hi-viz and you don't have to carry a breathalyser. Looking at the laws for Belgium it only says that drivers when they leave their vehicle on a motorway have to wear a hi-viz, take it that means cars etc. so I personally will not be wearing one, so there!!  butt
