EIC Holland 2016 dates

Post  Richy Y on Fri 04 Dec 2015, 01:09

We have googled the venue in Holland and after a short ride down to The Port of Tyne, a ferry crossing to Amsterdam, it's only 50 miles to the Oostappen Holiday Park Riviera Beach. So we won't get furthest traveled !!! Budgie smugglers look to be the order of the day. cool 2

EIC Holland 2016 dates

Post  Richy Y on Sat 05 Dec 2015, 01:16

If anyone is thinking of coming up to The Toon, and travelling from the Tyne to Amsterdam, can I suggest that we get numbers first and then do a block booking on the ferry to hopefully make it cheaper.

Then from there maybe stop in Amsterdam for one night and do a bit of touring.

Another thought is to stay at the venue for the meet and do day's out until the rally weekend depending on the cost.

Just a couple of ideas, please feel free to add or make other suggestions as I know there are a few of us who have thought of turning this into a holiday as well as the rally.

Shaz and I are thinking along those lines Richy, all depends on location really but we thought of making a week or so of it. The Newcastle Steam Packet crossing sounds like a plan.

Anyone else crossing down this way?

I haven't fully decided yet because of all the trouble at Dover maybe if there's a few of us safety in numbers dunno what hillwalker and terrystephens are doing yet be great if we could all cross together failing that I'm looking at newhaven as a possible crossing point also depends whether the french are on strike or not too Very Happy thumb

tighter anyway. Think its just going to be any UK meets for me in the future.

Post  The Prospector on Sun 06 Dec 2015, 11:13

Just been looking at ferry's from Newcastle and Hull overnight with cabin and breakfast to cross Wednesday night 8th June and return Tuesday night 14th June
DFDS Newcastle - Amsterdam £326
P&O Hull - Rotterdam £366
One hour and 81km to site from Amsterdam and one hour thirty and 130km from Rotterdam
If were going to do a group booking from Newcastle do we use this thread or start a new one to discuss depart and return dates, overnights other places to visit, list of interested parties etc.
Any one volunteering to be organizer, I'm afraid my work and limited computer knowledge means I sometimes struggle to keep abreast of developments.
I guess a list of people and idea of travel dates is where to start.
Do we have any info on accommodation yet don't fancy the tents?
Comments ideas peeps thumb

That's a bit steep for a ferry crossing with a bike I done a search from Harwich to the hook of Holland leaving on the 8th at 2300 hrs returning on the 16 th 2200 hrs £152 including a cabin both ways that was the non refundable no changes ticket went up to £192 if you wanted the flexibility of being able to change things before departure

That's quite a saving but 21/2 hour's extra ride this side for me but if were going as a group I'll go with the flow, lets get some ideas and numbers flowing
Of course the Harwich crossing is only 8 hours so not a lot of sleep maybe 6 hours the Newcastle crossing is 14 1/2 so time to eat socialise and sleep, :dont-know:

EIC Holland 2016 dates

Post  Richy Y on Mon 07 Dec 2015, 01:13

I think I have mentioned this before, when we went to Belgium and I was going on my own, the price was £217. When Dave and Mark decided to go it brought the price down to £155 and that included breakfast and evening meal in both directions.

Which ever way everyone decides to go I think that the more going on whichever route you choose should drive the price down by doing a block booking.

As some one has already mentioned, instead of blocking this thread, I will open a new one, "The Toon to Amsterdam, June 2016". If you wish to join us on this route will you add your name(s) and when we think we have the numbers I will inquire about the price. We can then decide on which day we leave and when we will return, places to stay, things to see etc. We can also make arrangements to meet with the others who are travelling from other routes and ride into the event in one big group on the Friday.

If others want to start other threads for their chosen routes, we can keep this thread for keeping all who are going informed. Looking forward to this more than Christmas. Very Happy

Well guys & gals, as my hols are fixed its looking doubtful for me to go. I'm off for whitsun (30th May to 3rd of June) though & I'm hoping to have a spin into Germany during that week as there's a mission I've got to do which is on my bucket list.

The only chance I'll have of getting on the EIC (depending on my workload) would be to leave my place on Friday pm, go through the tunnel at short notice & ride up through France, Belgium & into Holland. It's around 480 to 520 miles depending on route so it's doable in an evening/night. I have to be back by Sunday evening though so it'd be a tight/fast journey for me.

After all, it's about the ride ain't it ?

Well see what happens nearer the time as my workload does occasionally vary.

I've looked at routes from the campsite to where I want to go. It's about 2 hours ride and goes through Arnhem  and Nijmegen which are great historical sites.
